The Forest Management Institute (FMI)
nobody 2010-05-17

in Czech "ÚHÚL", is a government organization established by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic.

  • Forest inventory in the Czech Republic (FI) Forest inventory is the independent survey of forest lands and their development. By means of the forest inventory information collected, the organization's focus is especially on growing stock and the forest's functionality as an important renewable natural resource and crucial part of the environment. The most modern terrain equipment is used for the data collection.
  • The compilation and administration of Regional Plans of Forest Development (RPFD) data including the execution of uniform forest typologic system in the Czech Republic Regional Plans of Forest Development (RPFD) are the defining principles of forest management according to the natural forest areas in the Czech Republic. They stem from the concept of sustainable forest management and hope to minimize conflict between societal interests and those of particular forest owners. These principles serve as information resources for executing forest management plans, forest management outlines, as well as the support for government administration decision making.
  • Information and Data Centre (IDC) for forest and game management sector of the Czech Republic The Information and Data Centre executes the administration of the central database and archives on forests and game management in the Czech Republic which includes monitoring data and other related information. The most important function is the regular administration and entry of forest and forest management data collected in the Czech Republic and the accessibility of this data to the bodies of forest administration in the government and to the interested public.
  • Providing information services within forest certification of the Czech Republic Forest certification is the process of an independent organization issuing a certificate confirming that forest management fulfills the predefined criteria of sustainable forest management. The National Certification Centre is a department of the FMI. The National Certification Centre provides information service and support for the implementation of forest certification in the Czech Republic. In addition to the above mentioned activities, every year the FMI contributes to the "Forest and Forest Management Report of the Czech Republic", elaboration of other analysis, methodologies, layouts and prognosis. The FMI is also involved in domestic and international research projects as well as working in the area of consultation, methodological and edification activities.

Region Vysocina
nobody 2010-05-17

The name of the Vysocina Region derives from the name of the Ceskomoravska vrchovina (Bohemian-Moravian Highlands), a hilly, undulating countryside situated between the two historical lands of the Czech Republic. Vysocina reaches over 800 meters in altitude, in the two distinct mountain ranges of Zdarske vrchy in the north of the region and Jihlavske vrchy in the south-west. The main European water divide, echoing the former frontier between Bohemia and Moravia, divides the region into two parts almost equal in area. Bordering the South-Moravian Region to the east, the South-Bohemian and Middle Bohemian Regions to the west, and sharing a border with the Pardubice Region to the north-east, the region is situated in the very heart of the Czech Republic. The economy of the region's eastern part is influenced by the neighbouring urban centre of Brno, while the north-eastern part is within the sphere of influence of the capital of Prague.

International organization for normalization (ISO) defines geomatics as “scientific and technical interdisciplinary branch focused on collecting, distributing, storing, analyzing, processing and presenting of geographical data or geographical information”. It consists of many branches which may be combined to produce detailed, but understandable image of physical world and our role on it. Those branches are: surveying (geodesy and cartography), remote sensing (together with photogrammetry), global positioning systems and GIS.

Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of West Bohemia (UWB) is a research institute comprising of two parts: Mathematics section and Geomatics section. Both sections have deep research knowledge in various projects. Department has more then 90 scientists that have rich experiences not only from educational point of view but also from practical based on many years cooperation with authorities on local, regional, national and European level, cadastral offices, mapping agencies and other companies. Department of Mathematics obtained Research Plan MSM 4977751301 from 2005 till 2011. The aim of this Research Plan is to contribute to the development of knowledge of discrete mathematical structures, finding new mathematical methods and development of effective algorithms using these methods.

Geomatics section is focused on geodesy and GIS, cadastre and civil law and cartography. Research activities and coordination of the project Plan4all will be supported by experiences from projects successfully fulfilled or still running (e.g. EU project Humboldt that contributes to the implementation of a European Spatial Data Infrastructure (ESDI), GPS station - network of permanent GPS stations within Czech Republic, Precise models of geoid and quazigeoid in central Europe, Georeferencing and cartographic analyse of historical mapping of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, Land data models, Progressive collection of geospatial data and its processing).
